First Iraqi MP dies from COVID-19, had represented Diyala governorate

SULAIMANI — Iraqi lawmaker Ghida Kambash died of COVID-19 on Friday (July 10) fourteen days after testing positive for coronavirus infection.

The 46-year-old was a three-time MP from Baquba in Diyala governorate and focused on education reform and social welfare.

She was the first member of the Council of Representatives to die of the disease, which is hitting Iraq increasingly hard.

On Friday, the federal Ministry of Health said that it recorded 2,848 new cases of coronavirus and 78 deaths in the country over the past 24 hours.

there have been 72,460 cases of coronavirus in Iraq. 41,380 patients have recovered from COVID-19, and 2,960 have died from it.
