SULAIMANI — Head of Duhok Municipalities Diar Bahri said on Thursday (July 9) that 6,000 houses that were built without permits in the central part of the governorate will be legalized because of a recent decision by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

He told NRT Digital Media that there are 25,000 illegal houses in total in Duhok governorate.

Bahri added that forms to facilitate the process will be distributed starting on Sunday and that they must be returned by October 10.

Meanwhile, new Duhok Governor Ali Tatar Nerwaiy has formed a committee to monitor the procedures.

On June 24, the head of the KRG’s Production Unit Mohammed Shukri said that the government was beginning implementation of legislation passed by the Kurdistan Parliament in October to amend the law governing the illegal seizure of land, effectively granting amnesty to those who illegally built houses without permits.
