Ninth COVID-19 death reported in Kurdistan Region, second in one day

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health said on Tuesday (June 2) that a patient has died in Garmian’s Kifri district from COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus infection, bringing the Kurdistan Region’s death toll to nine.

It was the second COVID-19 death announced on Tuesday.

The ministry said that the patient was a 63-year-old woman who is from Kifri district. She presented with severe symptoms of the disease and was admitted in hospital on May 30.

There have been 745 cases of coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region. Four hundred and thirty-four patients have recovered from COVID-19

Of the Region’s nine deaths, six have been in Sulaimani, two in Erbil, and one in Garmian.

KRG Minister of Interior said earlier Tuesday that he expected the death toll from the outbreak to rise.
