SULAIMANI — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Electricity Kamal Mohammad said that a South Korean team has arrived in the Kurdistan Region to complete work on the Khabat electricity station, which will increase the number of hours of publicly-provided electricity for residents.

“Under a decision by the KRG Prime Minister, a Korean team arrived in the Kurdistan Region and in two weeks they will finish the Khabat electricity station,” Mohammed said.

“The electricity situation is stable and we can give more than 20 hours of electricity daily. In the next month, electricity production at Dukan Dam will also increase by 100 megawatts,” Mohammed added.

According to Mohammed, the Khabat electricity station will add 300 megawatts to the Kurdistan Region’s electricity production and will alleviate the pressure on the network as the summer heat increases demand to the highest levels of the year.

Blackouts are common in the Region and many people rely on private generators in their neighborhoods to fill in the gaps.
