SULAIMANI — In response to a request for information needed to plan for administrative decentralization, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Finance has declined to provide details about the revenues and budgets of the governorates.

The request was made by a committee composed of members of the Sulaimani Provincial Council who are tasked with examining the issue of decentralization and planning for its implementation.

On Friday (May 22), Sulaimani Provincial Council Member Rekawt Zaki accused KRG Minister of Finance Awat Janab of undermining the work of the committee by refusing to release the data.

The ministry justified its action by saying on Saturday that it had not yet received formal notice of the committee's authority.

“Even the Kurdistan Parliament needs to follow procedures and send us a request, so the provincial council should also follow these steps for us to cooperate with them,” the ministry said in a statement.
