SULAIMANI — Erbil Traffic Directorate spokesperson Fazil Haji said on Friday (April 10) that four people died in a car accident on the Erbil-Shamamk road on Thursday night.

Haji told NRT Digital Media that the vehicle crashed into a backhoe parked on the side of the road.

Despite the curfew and travel restriction between the cities that the Kurdistan Regional Government put in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the directorate said that a number of accidents have still happened over the last month. Only authorized people are allowed to drive during the curfew.

According to the directorate, 4,400 car accidents occurred in the Kurdistan Region in 2019, killing 575 people and injuring more than 6,800 others.
