SULAIMANI — The Iraqi government met on Tuesday (November 12) and decided to delay the provincial council elections to an unknown date.

The elections was supposed to take place on April 20, 2020 and have already been delayed several times for security and logistical reasons.

The decision did not indicate a new date for the elections.

The government also has submitted draft legislation to reform both the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) and general election procedures.

Earlier, an IHEC member said that preparations were already well under way for the April elections.

The Council of Representatives voted on October 28 to dissolve the provincial council and suspend their operations.
