SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced the return of 77 irregular migrants from Turkey on Saturday (July 17).

The ministry said that the return was facilitated by the Iraqi Embassy in Ankara and that the migrants, who were from the Kurdistan Region and Nineveh governorate, arrived through the Ibrahim Khalil border crossing.

Even in the face of global travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of people from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region have attempted the perilous journey to Europe seeking safety and economic opportunity.
