Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani has issued several directives aimed at conserving water and preventing waste across the country.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Press Office on Wednesday, the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Municipalities has been instructed to repair all damaged or leaking main and secondary water pipelines in every province.

The statement added that, starting from November 21, 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture will no longer renew licenses for open or muddy fish farming ponds. Instead, all fish farming projects will be converted to closed-system operations to reduce water waste.
