The Director General of Social Reforms has raised concerns about overcrowding in prisons, saying the high conviction rate is placing significant pressure on rehabilitation centers, which now face a shortage of available space.
Ihsan Abdulrahman, Director General of Social Corrections, told NRT on Tuesday that out of 6,000 prisoners, 1,763 are serving sentences related to drug use and trafficking.
"There is a high conviction rate in prisons, which puts a lot of pressure on prisons and they have a shortage of space,” Abdulrahman said, stressing the need for expanded facilities and reforms to address the growing inmate population.
