The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) General Directorate of Hajj and Umrah announced on Tuesday that no Umrah flights will be operated from the Kurdistan Region to Saudi Arabia until the return of all stranded pilgrims.
The directorate said the delay in bringing citizens back from Saudi Arabia was caused by a shortage of aircraft, forcing many pilgrims either to remain there or return by bus.
The KRG has formally notified all Hajj and Umrah companies across the provinces and autonomous administrations not to organize any air travel for Umrah until further notice from the directorate.
Thousands of Iraqi and Kurdish pilgrims are currently stranded in Saudi Arabia due to logistical difficulties.
