The New Generation Movement announced Monday that it will participate in Wednesday’s demonstrations organized by teachers and employees, while reiterating its demand for a wider nationwide protest in the coming week.
In its statement, the movement said that although it had previously urged parties outside the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to organize a broad protest across the Kurdistan Region, it nonetheless supports and will join the August 19 demonstrations.
"We not only support any demonstration of different sections of society, but also participate in it,” the statement read. The movement stressed that it remains aligned with opposition parties in the hope of organizing a unified, large-scale protest next week.
The New Generation Movement has recently called for mass demonstrations against salary delays, urging the involvement of all sectors of society beyond the ruling parties.
