Yousef Mohammed, former speaker of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, has called for the release of New Generation Movement leader Shaswar Abdulwahid, stressing that he holds 24 seats in parliament and is not "an ordinary person.” Mohammed said Wednesday that the Sulaimani court’s handling of Abdulwahid’s trial will be under international monitoring.
He noted that the judiciary in areas under KDP control has long faced public doubts, and the current case places the PUK-run courts under even greater scrutiny. Mohammed emphasized that the arrest and prosecution of such a prominent political figure further raises concerns about judicial independence in the Kurdistan Region.
