The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has disqualified 70 candidates from running in the upcoming elections due to a failure to meet candidacy requirements.
Emad Jamil, head of IHEC’s media team, told Al-Sabah newspaper on Tuesday that the disqualified candidates either lacked the necessary qualifications, failed to complete required documentation, or their political lists violated electoral regulations. Some lists exceeded the 20% quota for high school graduates, while others failed to meet the 20% female representation requirement.
IHEC announced that the draw for assigning numbers to parties and coalitions will take place next Saturday, followed by experimental voting on Sunday.
