Ali Qalai, head of the PUK elections office in Kirkuk, said Monday that it would be more appropriate for the Kurds to run in the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections with three separate lists.
He said the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) should have its own list, and the opposition parties should form another list. He also said that an attempt to form a joint list with the KDP based on national sentiment was not appropriate.
According to Qalai, participating with three lists could help the Kurds secure six of Kirkuk’s 12 parliamentary seats.
These remarks come amid criticism that both the PUK and KDP often make promises ahead of elections to gain public trust but fail to fulfill them after securing votes.
