Iraqi Foreign Minister: We Support Iran-US Talks as Path to Peace

Baghdad – April 23 – Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said Wednesday that Iraq fully supports diplomatic dialogue between Iran and the United States, emphasizing that negotiations are the only viable path to a peaceful resolution in the region.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Baghdad alongside French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, Hussein stated, "We support the Iran-US talks. These discussions are the only solution to reach a peaceful understanding.”

The meeting between the Iraqi and French officials focused on regional developments and the strengthening of Iraq-France relations.

"Our relations with France are broad,” Hussein said, noting France's significant role in the international coalition during Iraq’s fight against ISIS.

Regarding Syria, the Iraqi foreign minister reiterated Iraq’s support for the stability of its neighbor, stressing the importance of building a comprehensive political process to resolve the conflict there.

For his part, French Foreign Minister Le Drian reaffirmed France’s commitment to Iraq’s sovereignty and praised Baghdad’s efforts to stabilize the region.

"Iraq has returned to its role as an engine of stability in the region,” he said, commending the leadership of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani and the government's recent initiatives.

The press conference underscored Iraq’s growing role in regional diplomacy and international cooperation amid continuing tensions across the Middle East.
