Baghdad, Iraq – The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture announced on Tuesday that the agricultural plan for this year is progressing well, with the third of five irrigations already completed for the winter season. The ministry confirmed that this year’s plan will lead to self-sufficiency in wheat production, aiming to meet the country’s demand for this crucial crop.
The agricultural plan covers 247,100 acres for vegetables and fruits, 49,420 acres for barley, and approximately 1.2 million acres for wheat. The ministry also stated that the Iraqi Cabinet has approved the export of last year's surplus, estimated at over 1.5 million tonnes. If a surplus is produced this year, the potential export will require further approval from the Cabinet, following a request from the Minister of Agriculture.
