SULAIMANI — The general hospital in
Penjwen said a shepherd was killed in a landmine explosion on Sunday (December
26) in a village in the district, which borders Iran.
Khalid Abdullah, a general practitioner
at the hospital, told NRT the landmine detonated in the village of Kani Shabani
in Penjwen at about 2:15.
Abdullah said the victim was born in
1982 and was a shepherd from Saqqez in the Kurdistan Province of Iran.
He stated the hospital was waiting for
relatives to claim the body after it was released from forensic analysis.
More than 1,100 people lost their lives
due to landmines in Penjwen over the past 30 years.
