1,220 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Kurdistan Region: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Thursday (July 22) it officially recorded 1,220 new cases of coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours.

There were 488 new cases in Sulaimani governorate, 419 in Erbil, 223 in Duhok, 58 in Garmian administration, 12 in Raparin administration, and 10 in Halabja governorate.

On June 20, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 1,985 infections.

The ministry also said twenty-two patients had died from the disease, while 701 others recovered.

According to the health ministry, there have been 209,220 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 189,481 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 4,648 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
