SULAIMANI — The Syrian government’s Financial Action Task Force (FATF) announced  on Saturday (December 29) that it had designated 650 local and foreign individuals on its list of people involved in terrorist activity, including the current head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Security Council and nominee for prime minister Masrour Barzani.

According to state media outlet SANA, FATF's purpose is to combat money laundering and terrorism financing. It publishes the list on an annual basis.

Akhbar newspaper, which is close to the Syrian government, said that most of those on the list are Syrians, but also includes Saudis, Lebanese, Kuwaitis, and others.

Other than Barzani, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and head of the International Union of Islamic Scholars Yusuf al-Qaradawi were also included.

The report offered no evidence that Barzani has committed any terrorist offenses.
