SULAIMANI – A Peshmerga for Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) died on Wednesday (September 19) from wounds he sustained as a result of Iranian missile attack eleven days ago in Koya.

A member of KDPI’s internal counsel committee, Ali Bidaghi, told NRT that Qadir Izaty was seriously wounded in the missile attack on September 8.

“He was receiving medical treatment at Shorish Hospital in Sulaimani, where he died this afternoon,” said Bidaghi.

Izaty, 65, was buried in Shahidani Dimokrat Cemetery in Koya.

He was a resident of the Iranian Kurdish-populated city of Marivan and served as a KDPI Peshmerga for about 40 years, added Bidaghi.

The Iranian military launched a missile attack on September 8 on a refugee camp and bases of the Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in Koya killing sixteen, including Izaty, and wounding dozens.

The attack targeted a group of senior PDKI and KDPI officials who were holding a plenum.

“Iran used long-range missiles in a coordinated attack on PDKI’s bases and adjacent refugee camps,” PDKI wrote on Twitter.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) condemned the attack, saying the soil of the Kurdistan Region must not be used for attacks on neighboring countries.
