SULAIMANI — Sulaimani governor Haval Abubakir on Wednesday (May 12) urged citizens to abide by the Kurdistan Region Government’s (KRG) coronavirus-related measures during Eid al-Fitr unlike previous occasions where the cases increased due to noncompliance.

On Tuesday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Endowment and Religious Affairs Pshtiwan Sadiq announced that Thursday would be the first day of Eid al-Fitr in the Kurdistan Region.

Abubakir said during a press conference that he hopes people will follow social distancing and avoid crowds and gathering.

He said that people abided by the public health guidelines in a good way during Ramadan which led to decrease in the cases, advising them to continue on doing so.

According to the KRG health ministry, there have been 158,901 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 140,261 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 4,131 have died from it.
