SULAIMANI — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Wednesday (May 12) expressed his concern about the ongoing violence between Israelis and Palestinians, which has resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians.

“We are very concerned about the recent violence between Israelis and Palestinians that claimed the lives of civilians, including children, and targeted holy sites,” Barzani said on Twitter.

“We call for restraint and a peaceful solution for the current unrest,” he added.

Triggered by violence in Jerusalem over illegal settlements, rocket fire and airstrikes have killed at least 35 Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip and five people in Israel, as well as wounding hundreds more.

In the crowded, Israeli-blockaded enclave of Gaza that Hamas controls, 12 children and one woman were among those killed since Monday night.
