SULAIMANI — Clashes between the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) and the Syrian regime’s National Defense Forces (NDF) militia continued in Qamishli’s al-Tay neighborhood on Friday (April 23).

According to local media outlet North Press Agency, NDF snipers intensified their targeting of civilian residential buildings in the early hours of Friday.

On Thursday, a high-profile member of the Bani Sabaa clan was allegedly shot dead by an NDF sniper while he was returning home after attending a meeting of a tribal delegation that advocated an end to the violence, which began on Wednesday night.

Earlier on Thursday, a child was killed and a man and a child were wounded when they were targeted by NDF gunmen near the city’s al-Wahda Roundabout.

Although the surrounding area is controlled by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, the Syrian regime maintains a small territorial presence in Qamishli through the NDF, a pro-regime militia that is also present in Hasakah.
