SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Ministry of Interior said on Friday (April 16) that the security forces in Nineveh governorate discovered approximately $ 1.5 million in cash that Islamic State (ISIS) militants hid in a house in Mosul when the group controlled the city and abandoned when it was recaptured.

In addition to the cash, fifteen kilograms of silver jewelry was also found at the site on Thursday.

ISIS, which ran a self-declared "caliphate" across vast parts of Syria and Iraq, captured Mosul in 2014, but was driven out by the Iraqi Security Forces in mid-2017 after months of grueling street fighting.
