78 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Kurdistan Region: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Saturday (February 27) it had officially recorded 78 new cases of coronavirus over the past 24 hours.

There were 35 new cases in Duhok governorate, twenty-one in Erbil, eighteen in Sulaimani, and four in the Garmian administration.

On October 27, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 1,597 infections.

The ministry also said no patients died from the disease, while 99 others recovered.

On Tuesday night, KRG Minister of Health Saman Barzinji said in a statement that most of the new cases are the from the UK coronavirus variant.

According to the health ministry, there have been 108,717 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 103,431 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 3,519 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
