199 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Kurdistan Region: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Thursday (February 25) it had officially recorded 199 new cases of coronavirus over the past 24 hours.

There were 109 new cases in Erbil governorate, 50 in Duhok, 36 in Sulaimani, three in the Garmian administration, and one in the Raparin administration.

On October 27, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 1,597 infections.

The ministry also said six patients had died from the disease, while 97 others recovered.

On Tuesday night, KRG Minister of Health Saman Barzinji said in a statement that most of the new cases are the from the UK coronavirus variant.

According to the health ministry, there have been 108,437 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 103,252 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 3,519 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
