SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Security Media Cell said on Saturday (January 23) that seven Islamic State (ISIS) militants were killed in two separate airstrikes conducted by the International Coalition in Kirkuk governorate and Qarachogh Mountain, located 60 km southwest of Erbil.

The cell said in a statement that the airstrikes were based on accurate intelligence and were ordered by the Iraqi military’s Joint Operations Command.

Four tunnels, belonging to the militants, were also destroyed, it added.

In December, 2017, federal security forces, in cooperation with the Peshmerga and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and aided by Coalition airstrikes, declared victory over ISIS. Since then, the militant group has resorted to guerrilla hit-and-run tactics, but remains a potent threat in some parts of the country.
