Iraq renovates twelve factories, with more to undergo upgrades: minister

SULAIMANI — During a visit to the Kurdistan Region, Federal Minister of Industry and Minerals Manhal al-Khabbaz said on Wednesday (January 20) that his ministry will launch a three-phase plan to improve Iraq’s industrial sector.

Al-Khabbaz told NRT that the main thrust is to repair, update, and reopen 83 factories around the country.

“Twelve factories have been renovated, while another five to six factories will be undergo updates in the coming months as we have planned,” he said.

Accompanied by his deputy, Alaa Ahmed al-Jubouri, al-Khabbaz met with his Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) counterpart Kamal Muslim in Erbil, according to a readout of the meeting released by the KRG.

The KRG Trade and Industry Ministry will make a reciprocal visit to Baghdad, after which the two governments will sign a memorandum of understanding to facilitate their joint work.

The federal ministry said that the agreement will allow them to explore ways to benefit from “successful investment experiences” in the Region’s industrial sector.
