SULAIMANI — Residents in Erbil’s Eight of Hasarok neighborhood protested in front of the city’s municipal building on Sunday (January 17) about their lack of access to public services.

“We call on the head of Erbil Municipality to comply with our demands. They are not many. We only want basic services,” one of the protesters told NRT reporter Omed Chomani.

Another protester said that residents want their neighborhood, which is located on the east of the Kurdistan Region’s capital, to be connected to the city’s road and drinking water networks.

There are nearly 16,000 housing units in the Eight of Hasarok, whose owners have been waiting for eighteen years for services to be provided to the area.

Residents staged a similar protest in June.
