SULAIMANI —A policeman was killed and two others were wounded on Thursday night (October 30) after a number of suspected Islamic State (ISIS) attacked a federal emergency police headquarters on Halwan bridge north of Diyala’s Jalawla sub-district.

Clashes occurred after the ISIS militants attacked a base belonging to the federal emergency police regiment in the sub-district, an anonymous security source on condition of anonymity told NRT Digital Media as he was not authorized to speak to media.

The damage and casualties among ISIS militants were unknown, the source added.

On October 21, three civilians were killed, two were wounded and three others were kidnapped at a fake checkpoint erected by suspected ISIS militants on the Jalawla-Khanaqin road near Halwan bridge.

Also on Thursday, Iraq’s Security Media Cell said that four hideouts belonging to the ISIS militants containing explosive devices were destroyed in Kirkuk’s Daquq district.

Federal counterterrorism forces arrested an ISIS militant who was in charge of the militant group’s so-called “Child Recruitment Detachment in Anbar’s Fallujah district, Yehia Rasool, the spokesperson for the Commander-In-Chief of the federal Armed forces tweeted.

Iraq declared victory over ISIS in December 2017, but the militant group routinely launches attacks, especially in the disputed areas in Saladin, Kirkuk, Nineveh and Diyala governorates.
