Kurdistan Region records 1,285 new coronavirus cases: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Thursday (October 29) that it had recorded 1,285 new cases of coronavirus infections in the Kurdistan Region over the past 24 hours, making it the fourth-worst day on record in terms of new cases.

The Region continues to experience troublingly high numbers of new infections with 1,597 new cases on Tuesday, the highest single-day total yet.

 A total of 580 of the newest cases were in Erbil governorate, along with 440 in Duhok, 187 in Sulaimani, 36 in the Garmian administration, 27 in Halabja, and fifteen in the Raparin administration.

The Region logged more than 1,000 new cases per day over five days last week from October 19 to October 23. Cases this week have been just as high.

The Ministry also said eighteen patients had died from the virus, while 503 recovered from the disease.

According to the health ministry, there have been 74,334 officially-recorded cases of the  coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 42,076 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 2,406 have died from it.
