Continuing week of record high numbers, 566 new coronavirus cases recorded in Kurdistan Region: ministry

SULAIMANI — Continuing a week of record high numbers of new cases, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health said on Wednesday (August 12) that it has recorded 566 new cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region over the past 24 hours.

Each of the last seven days have produced single-day totals with in the ten highest since records were first announced at the beginning of March. There have been more than 400 new cases every day since August 5.

All but two of the ten highest single-day totals have been in the past eight days, the others being July 7 and July 30.

A total of 389 of the newest cases are in Erbil governorate, along with 69 in Duhok, 54 in Sulaimani, and 27 in each Garmian and Raparin administrations.

The ministry also said that sixteen patients have died from the virus, while 164 patients recovered from the disease.

According to the health ministry, there have been 18,766 cases of coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 10,644 patients has recovered from COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus infection, and 686 have died from it.
