Erbil Central District says bazaars, auto shows will be closed on Fridays: Erbil Mayoral District

SULAIMANI — As the coronavirus outbreak continues to hit the governorate hard, Erbil Central District said on Thursday (August 6) that markets and bazaars, motorcycle and bicycle yards, and automobile shows will be closed on Fridays as a measure to contain the spread of the virus in the city.

“In accordance with a decision from the Operations Room in Erbil governorate, a decree has been made to close the popular bazaars, bird markets, motorcycle and bicycle yards and automobile shows on Fridays,” the Erbil Central District said in a press release.

Traffic will be prohibited from entering the market areas when they are shuttered.

A total of 5,417 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Erbil governorate so far. Of those, 337 patients have recovered and 148 have died from the contagious lung disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

According to the health ministry, there have been 15,577 cases of coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 9,711 patients has recovered from COVID-19 and 597 have died from it as of Wednesday.
