SULAIMANI — The Kirkuk National Security Service said on Wednesday (August 5) that it has arrested an Islamic State (ISIS) field commander in Kirkuk city.

In a statement, the federally-controlled unit said that the militant had been a leader of the Diwan al-Jund in Kirkuk and had launched attacks against the security forces, displaced families, and blown up houses.

“He confessed to leading the operation to control al-Bashir village,” it added.

On Monday, the federal security forces arrested another ISIS suspect, who also was a part of the Diwan al-Jund.

Both have been referred to the court of charges of violating Article 4 of the federal Counterterrorism Law.
