Officials intercept 27.6 tons of chicken being smuggled into Kurdistan Region

SULAIMANI — Officials at the Parwezxan border crossing between Iran and the Kurdistan Region said on Thursday (July 9) that they have seized 27.6 tons of smuggled chicken.

According to the officials, the shipment of chicken was reportedly hidden under cartons of ice cream and destined for markets in the Kurdistan Region.

The goods and the driver have been sent to the legal department of the Garmian Administration Customs Directorate for investigation.

According to regulations issued by the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, the importation of chicken into the Kurdistan Region has been banned to support local businesses.
