SULAIMANI — US Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat Islamic State (ISIS) James Jeffrey arrived in Erbil on Saturday (December 7) to meet with senior Kurdistan Region officials.

NRT reporter Mohammed Amir said Jeffrey met first with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and will then have talks with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani.

James, who is also the Trump administration's Syria envoy, is expected to discuss recent attacks by ISIS militants in the Garmian administration, according to the reporter.

ISIS militants attacked the Peshmerga’s Third Brigade in Kulajo town on Wednesday night. Three members of the Peshmerga were killed and two others were wounded.

Following the attack, the Ministry of Peshmerga called on the Coalition forces fighting ISIS militants to increase their support and assistance to the Peshmerga.

The village was the site of a deadly attack last week in which three Asayish were killed, including a commander.
