SULAIMANI — Representatives of twenty political parties in the Kurdistan Region met on Monday (October 21) to decide on the sequence of their candidates for the upcoming provincial elections in the disputed areas.

An NRT Digital Media reporter said that the meeting took place at the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) political bureau office in Sulaimani at 11:00 Pm.

The New generation Movement did not participate in the meeting.

On September 28, a number of political parties from the Kurdistan Region reached an agreement to form a joint electoral list for provincial elections in April 2020.

The list will focus on appealing to voters in the disputed areas in Kirkuk, Nineveh, Saladin, and Diyala governorates, a source with knowledge of the decision told NRT Digital Media.

The new list will be named the “Kurdistan Alliance List.”

New Generation did not participate in the meeting because it believes that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) have not created any common ground upon which all parties can unite, the Movement said in a statement.

The election will take place on April 20, 2020 in all Iraqi provinces, excluding those in the Kurdistan Region.
