SULAIMANI – The recently-elected Executive Body of the Change Movement (Gorran) said on Monday (September 16) that a major focus of its work moving forward will be to strengthen relations with its governing partners, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

The Executive Body consists of seven members and is the party’s top leadership group.

“We completely support the new government in implementing the reform agenda,” the Executive Body said in a press release.

“Regarding internal criticism and concerns: Our door is open to all organizers who have criticism or feel alienated,” the release said.

Gorran was founded in 2009 to challenge the dominance of the KDP and PUK. Its decision to go into government with them sparked accusations that it has abandoned its founding principles.

“Our main priority is speaking with those dissident organizers.”

Nevertheless, the Executive Body also seemed to signal that was pushing ahead with its current strategy.

“We will make preparations to hold the national conference and Gorran’s local elections.”

In party elections on Sunday, Gorran reelected the Omar Said Ali as the party’s general coordinator. Two other members of the previous Executive Body will serve again, but in different positions. The remaining four positions are being filled by new members.
