SULAIMANI — President of the New Generation Movement Shaswar Abdulwahid called on Saturday (September 14) for a broad-based opposition movement in the Kurdistan Region.

“There needs to be an opposition party with all the people and organizations that are not satisfied with the government and have a shared aim,” Abdulwahid said at a conference in Sulaimani sponsored by the Nalia Media Corporation, which owns NRT.

“Everyone is dissatisfied, but we need a common cause to unite us towards a great goal,” Abdulwahid said, citing low turnout numbers in last year’s election.

The New Generation Movement leader argued that, despite their enmity, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) were united in their efforts to oppress the Region’s people and steal the national wealth.

“The population should also unite and form a faction whether it is political or not,” Abdulwahid said.
