1,253 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Kurdistan Region: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Thursday (September 16) it officially recorded 1,253 new cases of coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours.

There were 800 new cases in Erbil, 396 in Sulaimani Governorate, 223 in Duhok, 55 in the Garmian administration, 42 in Halabja, and 31 in the Raparin administration.

On July 26, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 3,559 infections.

The ministry also said twenty-two patients had died from the disease, while 1,547 others recovered.

According to the health ministry, there have been 315,555 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 280,895 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 5,663 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
