SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Ministry of Health said on Thursday (May 12) that it recorded 129 coronavirus infections and one death in the country over the past 24 hours.

Of that total, 42 of the newest cases are in Baghdad governorate, along with eighteen in Sulaimani, twelve in Dhi Qar, ten in Erbil, ten in Basra, nine in Duhok, eight in Karbala, five in Wasit, five in Maysan, five in Babil, four in Diyala, and one in Anba.

The ministry reported one patient died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus infection, and 96 recovered from it.

Meanwhile, 15,933 people were vaccinated in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

According to the ministry, 10,575,775 people have been vaccinated in Iraq, a country of more than 40 million, since the shipment of vaccines arrived on February 28.

There have been 2,326,162 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus across Iraq since the virus first appeared in the country.

At least 2,229,668 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and a total of 25,216 people have died from it in Iraq. The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
