SULAIMANI —The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Department of Foreign Relations said on Wednesday (January 26) it is investigating the fate of migrants who perished in the sea near Greece.

The department said a delegation from its office has gone to Greece’s Ministry of Refugees and Emigration Affairs as part of its investigation to determine what exactly happened to the migrants, who included an 11-year-old boy, and to return their bodies to the Kurdistan Region.

The department said it will return the bodies of nine migrants in the next few days at the request of KRG President Nechirvan Barzani.

The return of the bodies has been delayed due to weather conditions, the directorate said.

A statement from the directorate said Greece’s Consul-General met with the representatives of missing people and assured them the government will do its best to find their remains.
