SULAIMANI — The bodies of nine Kurdish
migrants who drowned in the Aegean will be returned to the Kurdistan Region
from Athens on Thursday (January 27), representatives from the Summit Foundation in Greece
announced.
Families will be able to retrieve the
bodies of their relatives on Saturday from Erbil International Airport.
The bodies of five other migrants will
be sent from Athens on Saturday and may arrive in Erbil on the 1stor 2nd of February.
The head of the Summit Foundation for
Refugees and Displaced Affairs, Ari Jalal, said the nine migrants, eight women
and one man, were all from the Kurdistan Region.
They lost their lives after their
vessel sank in the Aegean on December 23, 2021. Another 57 migrants were
rescued from the vessel.
