SULAIMANI — Four members of the Iraqi army were killed and four others injured in an explosion from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Kirkuk governorate on Monday (January 24), NRT reporter Diyar Mohammed said.

The blast occurred near the village of Albushahab in Wadi al-Shay in Daquq district.

The members of security forces were from the Eighth Division Reconnaissance Battalion of the Iraqi army.

The past weeks have seen an uptick in Islamic State (ISIS) violence in Iraq and Syria, in particular in areas between the control of the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi federal government.

Eleven members of Iraqi forces were killed in an ISIS attack in Diyala early on Friday. The attack was one of the deadliest assaults in months.
