SULAIMANI — Unknown gunmen kidnapped a shepherd from a village in the southeast of Kirkuk governorate on Sunday (January 23), NRT reporter Diyar Mohammed said.

The man is the brother of the chief of Yarghuni village in Rashad sub-district in Kirkuk’s Daquq district.

The past weeks have seen an uptick in Islamic State (ISIS) violence in Iraq and Syria, in particular in areas between the control of the Kurdistan Region and federal Iraq.

Eleven members of Iraqi forces were killed in an ISIS attack in Diyala early on Friday. The attack was one of the deadliest assaults in months.
