Explosions strike at two Kurdish-owned banks in central Baghdad

SULAIMANI — Simultaneous explosions targeting two Kurdish-owned banks in Baghdad’s Karrada district struck on Sunday (January 16) evening, injuring two people.

Sound bombs exploded at Cihan bank near the National Theater and Kurdistan Bank near al-Wathiq Square, Security Media Cell announced in a statement, also noting two civilians sustained minor injuries.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Selim, the commander of Baghdad Operations, said forensics experts were at the scene of both incidents and that a security guard and a passerby were wounded in the first explosion.
