SULAIMANI — Sulaimani Directorate of Health Spokesperson Yad Naqshbandi said on Wednesday (October 20) that there is no plan to close schools in the governorate, despite rumors of government action because of COVID-19.

On Tuesday, the directorate urged local kindergartens and schools to tighten their COVID-19 protection measures.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Education Alan Hama Saeed said on October 17 that the ministry plans to continue to hold in-person classes at primary and secondary schools, but the decision is ultimately up to the KRG Ministry of Health and dependent on the COVID-19 situation.

There have been rumors that the government might cancel in-person classes, although COVID-19 cases have been relatively stable in the Kurdistan Region in recent weeks.
