SULAIMANI — The New Generation Movement and the Islah bloc in the Council of Representatives will announce a coalition after meeting in Sulaimani on Tuesday (January 15).

NRT Digital Media reporter Bzhar Dabagh said a delegation from the Islah bloc met with the Movement’s leader, Shaswar Abdulwahid.

Following the meeting, Abdulwahid said during a press conference that the Movement had formed a coalition with the Islah bloc and that they would act as political partners that framework.

Abdulwahid added that both New Generation and Islah stressed the importance of paying more attention to the people of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and that they would “support and assist each other for that purpose.”

Lead member of the Islah bloc’s delegation Hassan Shweerd said they wanted to have “strong relations” between the political parties.

Shweerd added that the Islah bloc’s views “are close to those of the New Generation’s officials” and that they wanted to work together to serve the people.

The Islah (Reform) bloc was announced in August and includes parties led by Muqtada al-Sadr, Haider al-Abadi, Ammar Hakim, and Iyad Allawi. The other major bloc in the Iraqi parliament is al-Bina (Construction), which is led by Hadi al-Amiri and Nouri al-Maliki.

During the meeting, The two sides discussed the latest development in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, as well as ways that they could work together, Dabagh added.
