SULAIMANI — Shopkeepers in Kirkuk on Tuesday (February 18) have objected to delays in reopening the Qaysari Bazaar, which was gutted in a fire in November 2018.

The fire destroyed all 366 shops in the historic market, which was established during the Ottoman period.

Shop owner Rizgar Jumaa told NRT Digital Media that “the repair work on the shops was finished six months ago, but the government has not set a date for returning the shops back to their owners.

“The repair work was done by a Turkish company and that’s why they have not returned the shops back to us. They are waiting for the Turkish consul general to reopen the Qaysari,” he added.
